A Community First Yorkshire event

Exploring safeguarding scenarios

Have you ever wondered what to actually do when confronted with a safeguarding situation? What do you report and what not? How far do you escalate the reporting? Does the Charity Commission need to know?

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility to protect people from harm or abuse. It applies to every charity or community group – not just those who work with children or adults at risk. This training is suitable for trustees/management committee members and/or anyone with a responsibility for the safety of those who come into contact with your organisation, whether they are beneficiaries, volunteers, staff, or visitors.

Join us at Sand Hutton & Claxton Village Hall for this interactive workshop. Throughout the day, participants will be split into discussion groups to explore different scenarios linked to safeguarding, Prevent and Hate Crime Awareness. There will be plenty of opportunity to raise situations you may have come across. This will develop your confidence in safeguarding matters and ensure you have the necessary skills and organisational procedures for good safeguarding practice.

What will you learn?

Participants will develop their knowledge and understanding of:

  • Responsibilities of safeguarding reporting within your organisation
  • When to escalate a safeguarding concern
  • What constitutes a “serious incident” with the Charity Commission
  • What to write as a press release should a safeguarding allegation be made public
  • How to access a range of up-to-date informative resources on good practice
  • Better awareness of Hate Crime

You will leave the session with practical tools and greater awareness to help increase the effectiveness of your organisation or group.

Who should attend?

This training is specifically aimed at trustees and members of management committees who want to develop an understanding of safeguarding matters but is suitable for anyone within the VCSE sector.

Please note this training is aimed at organisations and groups based in North Yorkshire or delivering services within North Yorkshire.
