Being a good trustee is critical to the success of your organisation.
If you want to become more effective and help your organisation to become even better at what it does, then this event is for you!
In this workshop we will explore how trustees work with paid staff, volunteers, service users, members and other stakeholders to make sure your organisation is run effectively and meets the needs for which it was set up.
This event will give a clear overview of the roles and responsibilities of committee members of charitable organisations.
This live, interactive workshop will be delivered over Zoom.
Who should attend
This workshop is designed for charity trustees, chief execs, directors and key decision makers.
Please note this training event is currently only available to organisations and groups based in North Yorkshire or delivering services within North Yorkshire.
What will you learn?
By the end of the course you will:
- Understand the term ‘Governance’ and the key principles of good governance
- Understand the terms ‘trustee, director and management committee’
- Have a basic understanding of voluntary and community sector legal structures
- Know the barriers to ensuring good governance
- Know how to improve governance
- Understand trustee duties and responsibilities
You will leave the workshop with practical tools to help increase the effectiveness of your group.
This will also be an opportunity to network with other trustees.
About the trainer
This training will be delivered by Hilary Ashton, a development officer at Community First Yorkshire. Hilary is an experienced trainer and has extensive experience of supporting charities to work through governance issues.

This event is free to organisations in North Yorkshire with an income of up to £5k thanks to funding from North Yorkshire County Council.
Places for other organisations are £24 each (£20 +VAT).
