Financial Responsibilities of Trustees

This session will help attendees:

  • To identify the legal responsibilities of trustees and company directors, with a focus on finance.
  • To provide an overview on the importance of:
  • Financial controls
  • Budgets
  • Financial record keeping
  • Financial reporting
  • Having a Reserves Policy
  • To know what to do when things go wrong.

What will you learn?

Increase Confidence: Trustees will gain a clear understanding of their legal responsibilities with regard to finance,  boosting confidence in their role and decision making.

Build Capacity: The course equips trustees with the knowledge to manage finances better, improving the organisation’s overall financial management and stability, and ensuring compliance.

Improve Capability: By learning about financial controls, budgets and reporting trustees will be better able to oversee finances and handle any challenges that arise.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for charity trustees who wish to explore and learn more about their financial responsibilities.

Please note this training is aimed at voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations and groups based in North Yorkshire or delivering services within North Yorkshire.

About the trainer

Rhys North – Senior Accountant  

Rhys North brings a wealth of experience to his online training courses, including sessions on preparing for the year-end and understanding the financial responsibilities of trustees. With over 30 years of experience as a chartered accountant, Rhys has worked in various financial management roles within the NHS and retrained as a teacher in 2010. Since joining WYCAS in 2019, Rhys has been passionate about sharing his expertise, making complex financial topics accessible to all. His courses are clear, practical, and designed to support both individuals and organisations in strengthening their financial management skills.

Concessionary places 

Thanks to funding from North Yorkshire Council, we have free ‘first come, first served’ places if you meet either of the criteria below. You can self-select a free place during booking.

Criteria: 

You are from a North Yorkshire VCSE organisation with an income of up to £5k

OR

You are from a North Yorkshire VCSE organisation with an income of up to £25k that is experiencing financial hardship and would struggle to pay.

These spaces are limited so if a free place is not shown when you go to book, you can ask to be added to the waiting list for a free place on a future training session.

No shows and concessions 

Please note that if you don’t attend training that you have booked on without giving seven days notice, you will be required to make the full payment. This also applies to free places. This is to allow as many participants as possible access to our training. See our  Terms and Conditions  for more information.

Refunds

Attendees can receive refunds for cancellations up to 7 days before the event date.
