Campaigns such as #CharitySoWhite have challenged the sector to take a long hard look in the mirror for a while but only the ongoing worldwide anti-racism rallies have finally pushed the topic to the top of the agenda.
Employment statistics on BAME representation have shown that the UK charity sector has been lacking behind both the public and private sector for years. Have we been complacent about racism on our own doorsteps? Have we been blind to what the experience of people of colour working in the charity sector really is like? At DSC we think yes, we have. And we want and ought to do better.
