The chairperson of a Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise sector organisation is responsible for the smooth running of meetings, allowing all individuals to have their say, and for guiding the organisation’s work towards the aims set out by the governing document. The chair has a critical influence on a board’s style, composition, balance and performance.
Each chair has a different style and there is no single formula for success; the factor common to top chairs is the ability to adapt their approach to the circumstances and the people they find themselves working with.
Whether you are newly appointed, or looking to improve your performance with a fresh perspective, practical case-study led insight shared on the day will equip you with the essential knowledge and skill-set to fulfil your role successfully
This short workshop will provide an opportunity to review your role and update yourself on current good practice. It will cover the following:
- Understanding the difference between strategic and operational role of a chair
- Effective skills for the chairperson
- Organising and facilitating meetings
- Barriers to decision making
Trainer: Shahida Iqbal, Director, Manar Associates Ltd. Shahida has extensive experience of supporting charities to work through governance issues.
