A Community First Yorkshire event

North Yorkshire Reuse Network

Every year, Brits throw out 300,000 tonnes of old clothes in their household rubbish bins and it’s estimated £140 million worth of clothing goes to landfill in the UK annually.

Shockingly, less than a fifth of used clothing is recycled in the UK.

We are all affected by the global textile industry through the clothes we wear, the bedding we sleep in and the towels we use to dry ourselves. This Reuse Network session will focus on the significant impact of the textiles industry on the use of global resources, the amount of textile waste produced and the many ways that VCSE organisations can help shape a new approach to the consumption of textiles and fashion.

What will you learn?

During the session we will explore:

  • consumer habits around textiles and fashion
  • how this has changed over the years
  • projections for the future, and
  • the different ways being considered to try to tackle the issues.

We will also share current practices and initiatives to reduce textile waste and hope to inspire you with fresh ideas for the crucial part you can play in re-shaping habits.

Who should attend?

The Community First Yorkshire Reuse Network brings together organisations working to waste less and reuse, repair and recycle more, benefiting from each other’s experiences, successes and lessons learned to make positive steps towards tackling climate change in their local communities.

Please note this training is aimed at voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations and groups based in North Yorkshire or delivering services within North Yorkshire.

What's included?

All attendees will receive a copy of the presentations and notes from the session.
